In 1994, the Diocese of Knoxville purchased 46 acres in Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee to develop a new Catholic Church in Hamilton County. Under the guidance of Fr. Mike Creson, the Catholic Church of Soddy-Daisy held its first Mass on Sunday, September 12, 1999, at the First Presbyterian Church in Soddy-Daisy. For five years the community of the First Presbyterian Church welcomed our parish community.
On January 15, 2005, we celebrated the dedication of our present building. The church facility was designed by architect Thomas Haeptle of Knoxville, and built by T. U. Parks Construction of Chattanooga.
Our church's interior is inspiring, with most of the artwork being handmade or handcrafted by members of the church and local community. Dee Mays created the beautiful stained-glass window above the altar. Don Maxwell built the cross and fully restored the corpus that hangs just below the window. Don also carved the wood portion of the altar, tabernacle and ambo. The Stations of the Cross were crafted by Debbie Kolp, Gary Tiner and Connie Willet. The baptismal font was designed and constructed by Tim Malo. Both the altar stone and the large stone of the baptismal font were taken from the mountain that is viewed from the sanctuary.
On February 3, 2010, we welcomed Msgr. Al Humbrecht as our new pastor. Holy Spirit has grown from a small parish of 49 families to a parish of over 300 families. Holy Spirit Catholic Church is blessed in so many ways.
